Retention Phase

The retention phase begins immediately after completion of the active phase of orthodontic treatment. However, it still belongs to the treatment phase. Retention serves to maintain the achieved tooth and jaw position after orthodontic treatment. There are removable and fixed retention appliances.

The fixed retainer (permanent tooth fixation) is particularly reliable, as it prevents the initial partial shifting of teeth without any patient cooperation. It is fixed invisibly on the inner surfaces of the lower or upper incisors.
